Big Fish (2003)
this review period, some confirmations and some surprises and changes of direction.
Big Fish by Tim Burton belongs to the first category, saw a movie once when he went to the cinema and never seen again. Immediately after watching I thought it was the best Burton, the more mature, more polished, in which all his poetry comes out in a direct and clear. So I still think after many years, I'd almost forgotten this gem.
highly personal film, in which the metaphorical aspect is ubiquitous and does not give even a moment the unfolding of events. Every character, every creature, every aspect of the set and location, has a precise location and precise meaning of poetry.
Edward Bloom is a man who lived a life that is expressed in his stories, such tall, and the boundary between reality and fantasy, no one can know. Can fantasies, stories, possession of life to become reality? According to Tim Burton.
Edward at the end of his life, tells us about his bizarre life from birth up to his last days. As a young boy visits a witch with an eye patch, in this eye, he sees his end: how is killed. Building on this, that Edward will be able to confront any incident without any risk, since it knows the manner of his death. And this is where his adventure, a life populated by continuous research and risk, some meetings with freaks and mythological creatures. A life of choices dictated by love for the woman he marries. His "fantasy" but are not understood by his son, who compares his father to an iceberg, I can see only one side, but ninety percent is under water. Only at the end things change ...
Big Fish is an elusive creature, and for this important and fascinating. Big Fish is the same as Edward, a product of fantasy, myth elusive but true because it tells. The story tramanderĂ , and Edward will live forever in the stories, and people feel they will be falling in love.
Film important that teaches you to be open to the world, Burton has always exorcised the fears, the monsters are attractive, never disturbing. This film is nothing but a confirmation of his thought, an open love towards everything that scares us a positive feedback in what is apparently negative.
poetic masterpiece by Tim Burton.
